Black and White Wedding at The Willows Event Center | The Starrs

Oh my Starrs! Josephine and Jackson, now better known as “The Starrs” said I Do at their wedding at The Willows Event Center in Lubbock, TX. With weeping willows, waterfalls and rose bushes, the space in and of itself is pretty special and unlike anything in the area, but then add in a classic black and white color palette accented with modern neutrals and cocktail attire – and well, you have magic!

One of my favorite parts of shooting weddings is when I get to know my couples and create a connection with them. It truly allows me to capture their story as a friend and help everything just flow. From the moment I met Josephine and Jackson, we had such a great connection and I couldn’t wait for their big day!

Their day was SO unique but still infused with personal touches throughout. From my photo booth station that they had decked out with a backdrop of star balloons from Laughing Goat Design, to their formal announcement with the sound of Falling Like Stars playing in the background, it was clear they put thought into every detail and it definitely stood out!

Josephine was an Old Hollywood beauty in her fitted long sleeve gown with lace accents completed by a gorgeous white bouquet with hints of pale blush. Her bridesmaids carried dried floral bouquets that really popped off their black gowns further tying together the whole theme. But the ceremony was a total showstopper! Kirby, with Ever Peach Floral Design, created a unique floral installation in The Willows Courtyard that looked like stars – I thought it was genius! It was seriously so beautiful and I loved how Josephine and Jackson really made the space, their own.

The stars definitely aligned for Mr. and Mrs. Starrs. I hope your love continues to bring you as much happiness and magic as the sky holds.

From the Bride and Groom:

What was the favorite part of your day?

Kinda hard to choose one! One of my favorite parts of the day was walking down the aisle. I feel like I was truly surrounded by those who I love and those who have watched Jackson and I grow to the people we are today. I can’t forget the faces I saw, walking with my dad, and finally getting the chance to see my husband at the altar. I would say my other favorite part of the night was our last dance. Such an intimate moment between us, and while dancing around, it was like I could really feel the love Jackson has given me throughout the years. I replay our last dance in my head over and over again.

How did you choose your first dance/ceremony song?

I gave a lot of thought to the songs we chose to play for our wedding. We chose “You are the Reason” as our first dance because there are all of truths to the song that I found with us. Jackson has opened my eyes to many things in this world. I feel that he is the reason that I can be myself and inspires me to always go and do more than I thought I could. He’s been there for me and I’ve been their for him, and I am so happy to see where we are now.
I heard “Falling like the Stars” on his Pandora weeks before the wedding, and I thought “I have to have this playing for our wedding.” The song definitely correlated with how we feel about each other, our pasts, presents, and future ideas with each other. I think it’s so important to continue “falling in love” with each other and I do! Everyday. He is an amazing guy that I get to call my husband now.

What did you love about your venue?

There’s so much to love about the Willows. It’s beautiful, romantic, and dreamy in many ways. I’ve looked through countless venues in Lubbock and I felt there was something that I was missing from each venue. But the Willows have answered all my prayers! Not only are the people at the Willows amazing, but they sought out the vision I had for my wedding and did their best to achieve it. I love Alyssa, Camryn and their wonderful team!
Their courtyard is so beautiful, but what took my breath away is their garden. You really don’t think you’re in Lubbock anymore when you’re surrounded by their willow trees, beautiful pond, and trails that seem to take you a different place. I fell so in love with the Willows and I couldn’t imagine our wedding anywhere else.
